Day 19 Leon
Another beautiful and warm day in Spain with highs in the upper 80’s. Wishing to avoid a walk through industrial areas, I boarded a bus from Mansilla to Leon for the 1.65 euros. Everything is cheap in Spain. Upon arrival in Leon, I got off the bus at one of the first stops in the city and walked the rest of the way in.
Leon is a bustling city, filled with history. Not sure it’s as beautiful as Burgos, but charming none the less.
Upon arrival I located the Cathedral which is one of the cities main attractions. While admiring it’s architecture I notice a familiar pilgrim walking by. Marco, sporting new shoes! After talking for a few minutes and catching up I learned Mickey has moved on a head renting a bike, and is now 40+ km ahead. We bid farewell as Marco was pressing on. Being younger it’s more about the distance and achievement for him than the experiences on the journey. That is what is great about the Camino, it is what you make of it for you that matters.
Joe and I been keeping in touch over email, and so we met up for dinner. It was great to hear about his experience on the Camino and other people he has met.
Here are a few pictures of Leon, I am taking a rest day on Wednesday and will tour the Cathedral and other sites before going back to walking on Thursday. I think my feet and back will enjoy the rest.
Buen Camino!
