Day 23 Rabanal del Camino
Today’s weather was overcast in the morning and while relatively cool, the humidity was quite high and thus a bit muggy. None the less I marched on for the short 20km to Rabanal del Camino. This is a town at the base of the foothills for the highest climb of the Camino since leaving St. Jean Pied de Port on day 1. Tomorrow I approach La Cruz de Ferro which as tradition holds is the place that pilgrims leave a stone which represents the painful burdens in one’s life.
We all have painful experiences in our lives and I have been looking forward to this day as a symbol that I may lay down those burdens of pain in my life with the hope of no longer carrying them. I expect ( and hope) it will be a significant experience for me.
I ran into a few acquaintances today, but for the most part used today as a personal reflection and preparation for tomorrow.
I will have to add pictures to another post tomorrow. Very slow data and no wifi here today.
