Day 34 Arzua

The humidity gave way to a very nice day weather wise. A gentle breeze helped push away the clouds early, which meant for a rather warm day in the afternoon. We got out on the Camino this morning around 7:30 and found ourselves wondering where the hoards of newbies went? I guess they had trouble getting up and at em this morning!!! In contrast to yesterday we had a delightful day with plenty of solitude or at least something more than walking in crowds.

Today we pushed on for 29 km to narrow down our goal of Santiago. With the all the newbies on the Camino, finding a place to stay is more challenging. Thus we have decided to do something unusual, tomorrow. We are sending our packs on ahead and will push to complete the 40 km straight into Santiago. Yes for some that might not be a what a true pilgrim does. But given that a good percentage of the people on the Camino are doing the shipping of baggage ahead daily, I think I can splurge for the final day and not be overly judged.

Terrain wise, the farmers have planted many fields of corn, which makes for some picturesque green fields in the pictures today. Today’s hike consisted of many shaded woodland trails with low proximity to busy roads, which made for a delightful Camino.

While on the trail the last few days we have run into Richard and Susan, an
older couple from New Zealand. It turns out they too started from St. Jean on June 3rd and recognized me.

Today we also me a wonderful woman from Columbia who has been living in in North Carolina, for 12 years. (Missed getting her name though).

As we approach the final days I cannot help but think of the many people I have met and wonder at the many more who are just beginning their Camino…. Each with their own goal in mind and hopes and dreams to be found on during their journey.

For all of those, and perhaps some of you reading this, I bid you “Buen Camino”.
