Day 37, Finisterre – journey to the end of the world
With not enough time or really desire to walk to Finisterre, we took a one day excursion bus tour to four stops including Finisterre.
We happened to be blessed yet again with amazing weather. Galicia is known to have interesting weather, including frequent rain in summer. However, today we had clear skies and lots of sun with temperatures in the 80’s.
The first stop on the tour was Muxia. This is a small fishing village where the final scene of the Movie “The Way” was filmed. It is the scene where the father who lost his son spreads the remaining ashes of his son in the Ocean.
The next stop was Cape Finisterre where the Camino officially ends with a marker showing 0km.
We had lunch in Finisterre village, and then toured a few other beautiful places including the only river in Europe to end by a waterfall into the ocean.
While we were at Cape Finisterre, I had a few minutes to sit at the “end of the world” and contemplate this journey. Having experienced this beautiful most western point of Spain, I again felt a sense of closure.
It has been an incredible journey full of spontaneity, new friendships, times of laughter and tears. It is certainly something that has changed my life.
I have learned a lot about life, myself and what really matters. Life is not about the accumulation of things, nor is it about that dream job. Rather, a fulfilling life is one full of small experiences with friends and loved ones.
I could go on about other spiritual and philosophical points, but as you have read from this blog; my most memorable experiences have been the small things. Today we experienced a small thing of seeing “the end of the world”, and it was beautiful.
