Day 4 Puente la reina
Leaving Pamplona behind us we crossed Alto del Perdon which has the metal sculpture depicting the pilgrimage. It’s a famous scene in the movie”The Way”.
We walked through wheat fields,
almond and olive groves. This played havoc with Marko’s allergies (grass etc.)
We have thus far been fortunate to have great weather. But today was hot in the morning and humid in the afternoon. This sapped our energy… Multiple days of 20+ km is starting to take its toll on our bodies. Marko has developed some blisters on one foot due to some bad socks. We will shopping for some better ones at the next opportunity.
Tonight we are staying in the Albergue Jakue which is has a Hotel on the top floors and an Albergue in the bottom. We were fortunate to get a room with four beds and our own bathroom! Quite a luxury for our tribe!
We have met many more pilgrims from all around the world. Marko is our resident translator. Often helping Mickey understand our conversations by translating to German. Being from Switzerland he speaks German, English, some French and Italian with some basic Spanish. He is truly our Yost (character from the movie “The Way”. What is interesting about our tribe is the age group. Two people 20 & 21, and two older folks at 49 and 53. Some fellow pilgrims have commented on how cool it is and are a bit envious. I am not sure if we will stick together for the whole Camino, but has been great thus far.
Tomorrow is another 22 km…. if blisters don’t slow us down. We will attempt to start an hour earlier due to an even warmer day expected.
