Day 7 heat wave and an early start to Logrono

With the day’s high at 35°C or ~95° F I set out at 5:20 AM with the hopes of reaching Logrono before the peak heat. 28km or 17.4 miles I’d a lot to do on a warm day. Some fellow pilgrims are having their packs shuttled to the next Albergue. With today being a hit one I was tempted, but since I was not sure I would go the full distance, I opted to carry mine on my back.

Despite the heat wave the weather has been fantastic, and the ability to witness a sunrise over Spain’s Navarra was majestic.

The Camino is full of many wonderful experiences and some not so much. Last night I experienced both. Joseph the host of Albergue Casa Sheila was the most gracious host. He carries each pilgrims bag to their bunk. A gracious experience for a weary pilgrims, especially to the third floor. In addition Joseph prepared a great breakfast, and remembered each of the pilgrims names. No small feat with 30+. Each of us got a warm personal farewell…. a truly gracious host. On the downside a young 20 something pilgrim was not happy with the amount of snoring folk in our room. We had our share of loud ones including me. However in her displeasure she took to throwing blankets at folks. A little extreme.

After laboring through the heat I arrive in Logrono to find the city alive with a festival. Today is the day the city/region celebrates Napoleon being ousted from the city.

Weary from a week of Albergue’s and after the heat of the last few nights I broke down and treated myself to a hotel room. ( And perhaps treating other fellow pilgrims a night of restful sleep with a little less snoring. 😛)
