Norte – Day 8 – Rest Day in Bilbao
After 7 days of walking, we enjoyed a rest day today. A week ago we started this journey having arrived after a long travel day with minimal sleep and one nights rest. In hindsight, it would have been better to have enjoyed a day in Hondarribia.
With a weeks journey behind us, we managed to get our laundry done last night and grab a meal at a five star resturant (La Burger Kingo) before exhastion overtook us.
As you might tell we miss a little bit of home, and started our day at Starbucks with two of the largest cups of coffee I have ever seen. Mine was just a grande, but Lori wanted a Venti. I swear her cup could have held a quart of coffee!
We toured the city of Bilbao, taking in the cities culture of art. We happened upon an outdoor art exhibit that popped up between our breakfast walk to Starbucks. Bilbao is home to the Guggenhiem museum. It was closed today, but we had not intended to visit. Never the less we had an enjoyable day. Our hotel desk clerk suggested a walking route though the city which we followed that included a converted water resevoir, which has been converted into part shops, part office building. The building has some amazing art columns, each unique.
A very enjoyable day…. We enjoyed the rest even though we spent much of the day walking. We plan to spend the evening exploring the old town area of Bilbao before we set out again tomorrow.
Enjoy the art in the photos, we certainly did!
