Trieste Day 1 and 2
Our morning began with a delightful breakfast at our charming hotel, followed by a leisurely stroll along the Grado canal. We marveled at the local volunteer divers tirelessly clearing debris from the lagoon, a testament to the community’s dedication to preserving its natural beauty.
Grado – Day 2
Our relaxing rest day in Grado was a highlight of our trip. After a disappointing stay at a mediocre 2-star hotel, we found a charming 4-star option near the central canal. The friendly hosts and modern amenities made our stay unforgettable.
Gemona del Friuli – Udine
Our cycling adventure in Italy was filled with excitement and discovery. Despite the cooler weather and some challenging road conditions, we enjoyed the scenic views and charming Italian villages. We stopped for a delicious meal at a local restaurant and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Tomorrow is our last day of cycling before we head back home.
Villach – Gemona del Friuli
The Alpe Adria cycle path is a true gem for cyclists seeking adventure and beauty. From the charming towns of Travisio and Venzone to the stunning landscapes of the region, every mile offers a new perspective and a new reason to pedal. From breathtaking views to delicious local cuisine, this journey has been an incredible adventure that we will cherish forever.
Spittal – Villach
We woke up to the beautiful sunny day on the Alpe Adria Cycle Path. With another shorter day of 40 km ahead, we set out around 9:15, weaving through town and enjoying the scenic views along the Drau river.
Obervellach – Spittal
We woke to clear skies with a bit more chill in the air. Fall is on its way. After yesterday’s epic scenery we set off this morning at a leisurely pace, wanting to soak in the beauty. We cycled through side roads up and down into more Bavarian rolling hills. While the general elevation was downhill today, it was compensated by uphill sections before descents. We rode along the Moll river through stretches of forest and green valleys. The scenery reminded us of parts of North Cascades.
Golling – St. Johann
We embarked on an exciting journey along the Alpe-Adria cycle path, starting with a climb to Lueg Pass and navigating through a gorge with speeding cars. After visiting the impressive castle in Werfen, we enjoyed a peaceful ride to St. Johann, where we staying in a 4-star hotel and enjoyed a delightful meal.
Salzburg Rest Day 3 – Hohensalzburg Fortress
Our last day in Salzburg was a highlight! We visited the stunning Hohensalzburg Fortress, one of Europe’s largest and most intact castles. The early morning visit was perfect, with fewer crowds and plenty of time to snap some amazing photos. After exploring the fortress, we enjoyed a leisurely coffee at a hilltop cafe, soaking in the breathtaking views of the Austrian Alps and the lush fields below. It was a truly memorable experience.
Salzburg Rest Day 2 – Eagles Nest and Berchtesgaden
We enjoyed a fantastic day at the Eagles Nest and Berchtesgaden. The weather was perfect, and the views from the bus ride were breathtaking. It was a humbling experience to learn about the history of the area and how humanity can overcome evil.
