A long Travel day with Planes and Trains

After a long day of traveling we made it to Donaueschingen Germany, the starting point of our cycling grand tour! We left for the airport at 7AM PDT, and arrived at our destination at ~ 9:30 AM PDT the next day. 26.5 hours. The travel consisted of a short flight to Portland, then a 10 hour direct flight to Frankfurt, and a ~ 5 hour train journey. Add in lay overs and delays and you get 26+ hours of travel.

During our flight today we met Ramon who was our assigned flight attendant. Ramon speaks 6 languages! English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. He provided exceptional first class service to us and other passengers. What a delight to meet some like Ramon who loves his job.

We also met a delightful woman at our hotel who helped check us in. We missed her name, but recognized her picture on the website as one of the 3 generations who own and operate the hotel. She enthusiastically show us our rental bikes, and gave us tips about where to drop our luggage for the transfer service etc.

We plan to rest up today, get situated with our bikes and organize our gear for the long journey ahead.

Thanks for following along on this journey with us. We look forward to sharing this adventure with you.
