Passau Rest Day
We got an early start on the day by heading down to three rivers convergence point to take some pictures before the hustle and bustle of the city arrived. We enjoyed a lesiurely walk along the Inn’s river and took a pic where the three rivers meet.

Afterwards we made the steep climb up the stairs and winding path to the Veste Oberhaus Fortress. The fortress is one of the largest and strongest fortifications in Europe. Napoleon used the fortress as a border stronghold against Austria. We wandered around the fortress and marveled at how this fortress stood guard over the city and rivers and would be a safe haven in mid-evil times. The view was stunning and the weather co-operated to give us some great photos.

Afterwards we headed back down to the city to visit St. Stephan’s Cathedral. Mass was in progress at the time, so we decided to come back after lunch.

Being Sunday, most shops were closed today so we wandered the retail district and ended up back at the BurgerGrill place again for an another round of smash burgers. We have become fond of this burger chain, as we have eaten there three times.
We explored a few more streets before ending up back at the cathedral. During Mass they had burned some incense which left some lingering smoke which provided some incredible lightning effects with the sun beams pouring through the windows. I was able to capture some of this on video. (be sure to watch it) The cathedral has some stunning frescos that you could spend hours admiring and still have more to look upon your next visit. The cathedral has the largest organ in the world with 17974 pipes and 233 registers. It appears the organ and part of the church is under renovation as you can see from video and pictures.

We spent the rest of the afternoon walking the river promenade and relaxing in the shade on a few park benches our hearts filled with gratitude for this experience.
Tomorrow we resume our journey on the Danube Grand Tour. Our next rest day will be in Vienna in four days. We are savoring every moment with thankfulness for the health and time to experience this wonderful region.

This blog is primarily a journal log so we can record the memories for our future selfs to look back on, but it’s also great to share these experiences with family and friends. Thanks for following along. Be sure to comment or ask questions, I read every one of them!
