Salzburg Rest Day 1

After breakfast we set out to get some laundry done before our afternoon walking tour. We arrived and the laundry facility to find that it was combo dry cleaner/drop off or self-serve laundry cleaners. With all the washers and dryers busy, the business was using all the washers. So we opted to drop off our laundry and pick it up at the end of the day. (More on that later…)

Since we had some extra time on our hands we set out to explore some of the Salzburg sites before they got too busy. We had time to stroll the Mirabell Palace and gardens. Even being early the gardens had quite a few visitors. We found a few churches that were open and took a few photos. I left the Insta360 camera back at the hotel since we had planned on laundry so I was not able to capture much more than some pictures. Perhaps tomorrow or Wednesday I’ll be able to revisit with the 360 camera.

We strolled the streets wandering the shops and alleys enjoying the quietness of the morning. Soon we decided to try some Apple strudel that I had spotted on our first night here. We stopped in for double espresso’s and Apple strudel. Lori had a cheese strudel. Both came with some warm vanilla custard. I might have to expand my Apple Strudel ratings from top 3 to top 5. Today’s certainly made it into top 5. Perhaps one of the top 3.

Soon it was time for our walking tour. We learned about the history of Salzburg, and how the arch bishops were the builders of the Mirabell Palace etc. We also got a glimpses of the Sound of Music spots where some of the movie scenes were filmed. And of course, no Salzburg tour would be complete without hearing details about Mozart and seeing his two residences here in Salzburg.

After our tour we headed back to pick up our laundry, only to find that it was not even started. The staff were appologetic and promised to have it done by opening time tomorrow at 7:30 AM. Fingers crossed….

We wrapped up our day with burgers from a local burger place.

Tomorrow we take a bus tour to Eagles Nest.
