Vienna – St. Stephan’s Cathedral and Schonbrunn Palace

With a warm day ahead of us we set out early to visit St. Stephan’s Cathedral before our Schonbrunn Palace guided tour.

At St. Stephan’s we lit candles for our grandchildren and visited the public areas and took some video walking around the outside of the cathedral.

Vienna is a big city and our hotel is not close to the historic areas so you either have to taxi/uber or subway. We opted for uber.

We arrived a few minutes early at Schonbrunn Palace and took a few video shots beforehand. Our guide led us through several rooms of the palace and gave an informative history lesson on the Austria monarch. The tour was interesting and the building was quite HOT. After the tour we walked a portion of the gardens which are vast. I don’t think the pictures or videos will do it justice. Prior to our trip we watched a few YouTube videos and the size of the gardens just can’t be represented on camera.

With laundry to do we headed back to the hotel. No laundry facilities are close by so we opted to hand washing clothes.

Tomorrow we have a WWII Vienna walking tour. When we think of WWII, we think primarily of Germany and Japan. But Austria had a role in it as well, and it’s one that is not talked about much in Austria among its people. (according to our guide)
