Krems – Vienna

With another 90+ km day ahead of us we set out from our hotel to Vienna. After navigating through the streets of Krems we linked up with the Danube cycle path.

The cycle path today had longs stretches of peaceful cycling next to the Danube river. With few attractions along the route today there were not a lot of pictures in the camera roll today. I did capture quite a few video shots, but they might appear to be similar. Yet that was the nature of the path today. Long quiet stretch’s where Lori and I felt we had the path and river to ourselves. We had fewer busy road sections today which made for a peaceful 90+km (55+ mile) ride.

We stopped in the town of Tulln and visited the church there. The chapel was smaller than those we have visited, yet it was still exquisite and beautiful in its own right. We lit candles for each of our grandchildren with hearts full of thankfulness for them. We miss them and can’t wait to share this journey with them.

After a short break and squashed cliff bar snack, we pressed on for Vienna. We arrived in Vienna tired and bum sore. While we have done 90+ km days, we usually experienced those sandwiched with shorter days or a rest day. We both were ready to find the hotel, get a shower and some food.

We arrived at the hotel only to discover that there appeared to be a mix up with our next portion of the trip to Budapest. After some back and forth with the front desk, we got the issue resolved. The mix up being booked with our last and first names reversed. Crisis averted, we cleaned the road grime off of us and settled for dinner at the hotel consisting of burgers and fries. I guess we are too predicable. Our hotel for the next few nights is the Marriott Courtyard in Vienna. It’s larger than most Courtyard hotels in the states, and we are basking in the luxury of air conditioning that actually gets the room cool. A welcome respite from the several nights of hot rooms.

The next two days (Friday and Saturday) we have two tours booked. One at the Schonbrunn Palace and another a WWII walking tour. Both should prove interesting.
