Gyor to Komaron/Komarno

With another 90+ degree day ahead of us, we set out early from Gyor. On the way out we stopped in the city square to snap a couple of pics before navigating to the cycle path. On leaving Gyor we followed the route designated and found ourselves on a loose gravel path for 8km. We have had plenty of gravel paths thus far, but this one had a lot more loose gravel than the others. It made for some squirrely riding that required your full attention. I took my eyes off to look around once and almost lost control in the soft gravel. Yet we endured and after 8 km we were happy to see pavement again.

The heat came on quickly and we rode on through similar wide open spaces of corn fields and grass lands through the Hungarian countryside. It was not particularly scenic and thus not a lot of pics or video today.

We passed through one small town in the middle of nowhere that had a long 1-2 km cobblestone road. It was a residential town with school, church and city hall but not much else but homes.

As we approached the town of Komarom Hungary, we crossed over the river back into Slovakia to the town of Komarno. We stopped by the city district, found a locked church and sat in the local park near the hotel to kill time. As the heat built up we surrendered and headed to the hotel. We arrived a bit early and had to wait in the air conditioned lobby for an hour before checking in.

We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing in a spacious hotel room. It actually is spacious, as the hotel has a casino. So the rooms are bigger than usual.

We have two days left of riding to reach Budapest. Rain is forecast overnight tonight (Wednesday) and again on Friday. Friday’s forecast looks to be heavy rain so we are hoping things change and we don’t have to ride in heavy rain again.
