Vienna – Bad Deutsch-Altenburg

We started our journey towards Budapest this morning with a relatively short ride of 46km (~31 miles). The cycle path today was mostly paved with only a few short sections on gravel. As we adjusted to our new (to us) bikes, we found today to be an easy ride. The terrain was flat and mostly straight. Compared to other days today’s ride was rather uninteresting. With that said, there were lots of cyclists today on the path given that it was Sunday, and I’m sure many Viennese cyclists just get on this trail and ride. Aside from some short industrial sections as you exit Vienna, it’s not long before you are away from the hustle and bustle of the city and in peaceful lands.

We arrived in Bas Deutsch-Altenburg our last stop in Austria before entering Slovakia early and found a place along the river to sit and enjoy the view. The wind picked up and while it was a comfortable day we got a little cold after awhile and decided to head over to the hotel to see if we could check in. We were warmly greeted and we settled in on the patio for a late lunch. Afterwards we took a walk through this small town and found ourselves at the local park near the river. Many locals also had the same idea and were also enjoying the park.

We closed out the day with some gelato picked up at the other nearby hotel and a stroll to the other side of town. And so ends another day on the Danube cycle path.
